Free play, during which children can choose where in the classroom they want to be and which toys they want to use.
Introductory Session—the teacher gets to know the children; they chat about how they're doing and what they've experienced over the past week, and introduce the theme the lesson will focus on.
Poem / Song—the children gradually learn poems and songs together, linked to the art theme.First phase of the art project—The children usually complete the first part of the art activity at their tables; the teacher introduces them to the technique and form, and, to stimulate their imagination, they brainstorm together to find ideas and approaches for tackling the task.Break and free play—Children who have finished the first part of the task join in free play in the playroom.Physical activity—the teacher ends free play with a physical activity (a dance, warm-up, or educational movement game) and motivates the children to begin the second collaborative activity. The second phase of creation. Seated at a small table, the children work together on the second phase of the art project; those who are interested continue, while those who have finished engage in free play or are offered the third phase of creation.Third phase of creation: "Mess Play"—children can choose from several art techniques they have gradually learned in previous lessons—painting with crayons, modeling with modeling clay, or working with ceramics.Group Circle and Evaluation—The children gather in a circle and share with each other how much they enjoyed the lesson's theme, what they did well, and what they'd like to do next time. The teacher guides them in processing any emotions that may have arisen during the creative process.A farewell poem.Free play—the children have the opportunity to choose their own toys and friends in the playroom and play together to wrap up the session.
