Assessment and Development of Children Using the iSophi® Methodology

At our preschool, we use the modern diagnostic system iSophi®, which helps us sensitively and objectively monitor a child's progress in key areas of preschool development. This system is based on the latest findings in educational diagnostics and developmental psychology, as well as the Framework Educational Programs for Preschool Education (RVP PV).

The iSophi methodology was developed by experts in the fields of preschool education and special education and is used in many preschools, counseling centers, and early childhood care centers throughout the Czech Republic. Its goal is to support an individualized approach to each child and enable teachers and parents to identify, early on, the areas in which a child excels as well as those that require more attention.

What iSophi Assesses

The iSophi assessment includes a comprehensive evaluation of the child's development across several areas: Every child is unique, which is why the methodology is designed to respect the individual pace of development and provide an overview of the child's progress throughout the school year.

• Motor Skills – development of fine and gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and movement skills.
• Cognitive Abilities – attention, memory, perception, pre-math, and pre-reading skills.
• Language and Speech – vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension of spoken language, and expressive abilities.
• Social-Emotional Domain—relationships with peers, independence, cooperation, self-regulation, and empathy.
• Self-Concept and Work Skills—the ability to complete tasks, concentrate, plan, and persevere.

How the Assessment Takes Place

The assessment takes the form of guided observation and short, playful activities that children enjoy. Children work with colorful cards, pictures, and tasks based on their natural world and experiences. The assessment takes place in a safe and friendly environment, usually individually or in small groups, to help the child feel at ease.

The results are not used for evaluation, but to understand the child's developmental path and to determine the optimal support for their future education. Teachers use them when planning activities, consulting with parents, and preparing individualized education plans.
